Germany - Bielefeld to Cologne

We found our way to the center of the Alter Markt which is the largest square in Cologne's old town. A fountain with a statue of Jan von Werth has dominated the square since 1884. He was a German General during the Thirty Years' War. The legend has it that he started as a poor peasant farmer in the 1600s and was rejected by his girlfriend, Griet, as not good enough to marry. After the war he returns as a successful man but he turns his back on Griet who is now interested in him!
